La canción pretende ser un homenaje al Rey del Pop en el primer aniversario de su muerte.

El 25 de Junio de 2009, los Commodores estaban actuando en el Wembley Arena en Londres. Después del espectáculo, se encontraron con la noticia de Jackson. A la noche siguiente, JD Nicholas sustituyó la palabra Jackie por Michael en su interpretación de “Nightshift”, y la multitud se rindió a sus pies.

El grupo ha vuelto a escribir y grabar la canción específicamente para rendir homenaje a Michael Jackson.

The Commodores tienen una historia con Michael Jackson, ya que el grupo estuvo de gira con los Jackson Five en la década de los 70.

Inicialmente, la canción Nightshift, grabada en 1985, está dedicada a la memoria de Jackie Wilson y Marvin Gaye, que nos dejaron ambos en 1984.

John Legend hará entrega del premio humanitario y cuando le preguntan sobre Michael, habló de su legado:

People really recognize that he’s one the greatest and one positive development out of such a tragic event is that the appreciation for his music grew even more. I’m not sure what exactly BET exactly is doing to honor him this time but I’m certainly a huge fan and can’t get enough Michael Jackson, so anything recognizing his music would be fine by me.

Well I was in London when Michael Jackson passed away so it was a bigger deal in Europe than it was in America. He did it a good way and a real way but it was emotional. There will be no other Michael Jackson. For real.

To tell you the truth man for that man to be gone it don’t feel right, but at the same time it feels like he’s not gone because of the presence of his music. Mike is somebody who sold 750 million records and that’s one of our goals in life, try to accomplish what Mike did by himself as a unit and try to do more. Try to sell more records than Mike, make more money than Mike. Numbers don’t lie, so that’s one of our goals and that’s what we trying to do as a whole is put up those kind of numbers.

Michael Jackson is the king of pop. That’s the king of entertainment, period. Not just pop, but entertainment. He was a trendsetter. I used to just follow his marketing schemes more than anything. Everybody loved the music, but I just loved the fact that how they marketed it when he would come out with an album. Before the album would come out it would be in McDonald’s or Burger King. He had cross promotion when nobody had cross promotion so I enjoyed his marketing of his product.

It’s just crazy man. It’s like that’s one of the people you would think would never die. For that to happen, that just surprised me. I was shocked and you know it was just sad but you know we got to keep it going and represent for him.

I don’t know, all I know is I’ve kind of become obsessed with collecting everything I didn’t have of Michael Jackson. He was so great. It’s reminding me of how impactful he was on my own career. No one has the focus and drive that he had. Do you understand the amount of hours he put in? A lot of it is natural, but the amount of hours since he was a kid that he put in just let me know that this industry is survival of the fittest and wow was he able to survive.

Well you know it affected the industry. It was a tragedy so… there’s not anybody in music or entertainment that wasn’t influenced at all by him. It’s incredible to see how the record sales just went through the roof after he passed. It shows that there are still true music fans out there and it’s not just always about a gimmick. There are real die hard music fans out there. It’s good to see that he gets that support.

Big fan of Michael Jackson. I grew up listening to him. He was one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived and I’m proud of myself being a good entertainer trying to be great so I’m watching him.

It’s a very sad thing and I felt like we lost the greatest entertainer ever and you know it’s a devastating situation, but his legacy forever lives on and through music. I’m like a huge Michael Jackson fan, so just to constantly have that person and be a part of that time when he was here, it’s a beautiful thing.

Aww man you already know just to lose a legend such as Mike at such an early age, it most definitely makes you reflect just as a person. It makes you appreciate every day that you’re here. Millones de personas rompieron en llanto y dolor desesperante, porque el Rey se había ido… sin poder despedirse.

Por el amor a sus fans, sintió la necesidad de hacer un último gran espectáculo, una despedida a lo grande, recordando todo lo que hizo en su carrera con el espectáculo más impresionante que jamás se habría hecho. Quería que sus hijos, lo vieran en un escenario, para que se sintieran orgullosos de papá.

Mucho se ha hablado de Michael Jackson, a lo largo de éste año,  a lo largo de toda su vida, su carrera y su muerte. El continuo vaivén de la espada de Damocles colgando sobre su cabeza, siempre estuvo esperando a caer en el momento más desafortunado, disfrazada de miles de paparazzi, de grandes masas de dinero, de intereses ocultos, de amenazas, envidias, engaños, conspiraciones, venganzas y odios.

Pero, ¿Alguien se ha preguntado alguna vez, como era realmente cuando llegaba a casa, y se quitaba los zapatos y subía los pies a la mesa? ¿Alguien ha pensado alguna vez, cómo se tuvo que sentir al despedirse de sus tres hijos menores, cuando marchaba en dirección al juzgado el 13 de Junio de 2005? ¿Alguien ha pensado alguna vez, en el dolor de su madre viendo cómo su hijo ha sido descuartizado y vendido en pequeñas piececitas aún con su cuerpo caliente? ¿Alguien ha pensado en el ser humano y no en el producto? ¿Alguien se ha preguntado alguna vez, que ocurría cuando se acababa el espectáculo? Es más, ¿Alguien ha pensado alguna vez? ¿O es más fácil que piensen por nosotros y nos digan que podemos leer en la prensa y que ver por televisión?

Para aquellos que no dejan que manejen sus hilos, que deciden qué quieren saber y cómo, les invito a conocer a un hombre, a través de sus actos. Que cada cual  juzgue sus propios actos, no los del prójimo.

El orden de reproducción de los vídeos es el siguiente:

1. We are the World. Primera vez que se graba una canción con varios artistas con fin benéfico. Todos los beneficios fueron a fundaciones contra el hambre en África. El grupo fue denominado USA (United of Suport of artists of America) for Africa. USA for AFRICA.
2. Man in the mirror. Todos los beneficios correspondientes a Michael por la venta de la canción son donados a uncampamento Ronald McDonald para niños con cáncer. El videoclip de Man In The Mirror es todo un alegato contra la violencia, contra el hambre, y por el bienestar de todos los necesitados, mostrando imágenes de mandatarios mundiales, manifestaciones contra la guerra de Vietnam o recordando la labor del proyecto We Are The World y otros parecidos en países africanos a mediados de los 80. El estribillo dice: “Si quieres hacer del mundo un sitio mejor, échate un vistazo a tí mismo y marca la diferencia”.
3. Another part of me.
4. Heal the World. Ésta pieza fue una de las más exitosas canciones de su carrera, se inspiró en el nombre de la canción para crear el Heal the World Foundation, una fundación de ayuda benéfica para los niños sin hogar.
5. Earth song. El vídeo musical muestra la devastación de la Tierra por el hombre; las agresiones del ejército serbio sobre pueblos croatas en los noventa, la pobreza en distintas tribus, matanzas indiscriminadas del hombre a animales… Al final del vídeo, se muestra como si una especie de huracán y terremoto hicieran temblar la Tierra e hiciera dar marcha atrás a todas estas calamidades.
6. El sencillo se promocionó con dos versiones de vídeos musicales. Uno en donde Michael figuraba como preso en una cárcel (el vídeo original), y otro bailando en las calles de Brasil (Doña Marta y en el barrio del Pelourinho en Salvador de Bahía).
7. HIStory. Éste video es una lección de historia impresionante, en donde se recogen datos históricos como la retransmisión por radio de la Reina Isabel de Inglaterra cuando era niña, para calmar a la población infantil durante la guerra, las primeras palabras grabadas por Marconi, las famosas palabras de Martin Luther King y otras tantas frases que han hecho historia. Michael insiste en que cada cual tiene que crea su propia historia, de ahí el juego de palabras de HIStory (su historia, de él).
8. Little Sussie. La desgarradora narración de el abandono infantil, reflejado en el drama de una niña llamada Sussie y de cómo acabó sola y muerta.
9. What more can I give. El 11 de Septiembre de 2001, Michael se encontraba en New York, porque la noche anterior había terminado su celebración del 3o aniversario. Inmediatamente mandó a todo su personal, acompañantes y familiares, abandonar lo antes posible la ciudad y volver a casa. A los fans que lo esperaban en la puerta del hotel, les instó a irse, poniendo a su disposición los medios suficientes para que pudieran salir de allí. Le dolió tanto lo que ocurrió, que no tardó en reunir a un nutrido grupo de amigos y formar la bella canción, la cual también fue editada en español. Todo lo recuadado, se donó a las víctimas de los atentados del 11-S.
10. Cry. En ésta ocasión Michael no aparece en el video, igual que en el de Heal de World o Earth Song. Una vez más, el mensaje que nos envía es de amor, unión y paz.
11. The lost children. Su amor por los niños nunca dejó indiferente a nadie, aunque la mayoría siempre pensó del modo equivocado sobre éste aspecto. La canción recuerda a todos los niños que un día desaparecieron bajo ciertas circunstancias, y de el dolor de los padres de no verles más y la pena de pensar que será de ellos y dónde estarán. Siempre instando a los padres a educar a los hijos con amor y a ser responsables.
12. We´ve had enough. El video es bastante fuerte y las imágenes impactantes, crudas y reales como la vida misma. La guerra, los hombres de azul (ONU), los inocentes que mueren en las guerras (sobre todo niños) y la libertad con que cada soldado decide quien debe morir.

P.D.: Michael prometió espectáculo por donde quiera que pasara  y así  lo cumplió. Pero nunca le dejaron descalzarse los zapatos brillantes para que pudiera ponerse sus cómodas zapatillas de casa.

Jamie Foxx fue el anfitrión del “Concierto Benéfico de primavera y entrega de premios del Apolo 2010″, la noche del pasado lunes 14 de Junio.

Danny Glover presentó a Aretha  Franklin, que fue incluída en el Hall of Fame del teatro.
